SAVED newsflash!

SAVED Project is an HLF funded community project to explore the early history of Shaftesbury and its Abbey through archaeology and research.

An important stage in the project is to conduct an archaeological geophysical survey.

An expert Austrian geophysics survey team will be carrying out a ground penetrating radar survey in Shaftesbury this week; the survey equipment sends radar pulses to detect structures and soil changes up to 6m below the ground.

The team will be starting at Castle Hill on Tuesday, then other sites including Park Walk, Bimport and the Abbey grounds.

Please feel free to come and watch them at work. Results will be shared as soon as possible.

We hope the survey results will reveal what lies under Shaftesbury and help us discover more about its history.
