Wednesday 13 March Shaftesbury Arts Centre 7.30pm
We are delighted to welcome back Stourhead’s head gardener and broadcaster, Alan Power to give a richly illustrated lecture on his work in some of Britain’s finest gardens and his horticultural broadcasting life.
‘Having grown up in Cork, Ireland I came to the UK to study. Horticulture has been in my blood from an early age, my mother inspired me to follow an education and eventually a career in the horticulture and arboriculture world. I have been so lucky to date to have worked in and managed some of the most beautiful gardens and estates in the country, notably Mount Stewart in Northern Ireland, Hidcote Manor in Gloucestershire and Stourhead in Wiltshire. The roles I have undertaken since early in my career have all presented me with amazing challenges and I love to share my work with as many people as possible. In recent years I have had the pleasure of working with the Gardeners World Team on many occasions and been a regular presenter on BBC Radio 4 as well as being one of the presenters on British Gardens in Time on BBC 4. My career has presented me with opportunities over the years to lecture across Europe and in the US liaising with people from all walks of life and I will try to share as much of this journey through great gardens as possible.’
